Be a governor
Shape the future of education – are you interested in becoming an academy governor?
Being a governor is a great way to have a positive impact on your community, by making a difference to the lives of its young people. You’ll help steer your academy, establish its vision and ethos and challenge the staff to deliver the goals that you set. You will be part of a team committed to improving the lives and future prospects of young people.
Ormiston Academies Trust will be there to support your governing board on its journey. A governor never has to make a decision in isolation and expert help is always available. We provide induction training, advice and both one-to-one and team support throughout every governor’s term of office.
Who can become a governor?
You don’t need any formal qualifications, but we do look out for people with business and finance skills or experience from the education sector to join our teams. Of course, you will also care about and have a commitment to the future of young people living in your community.
All governors need a Disclosure and Barring Service check before they start. You must be over 18 and living in the UK.
If you have questions about a governor’s role and responsibilities, or would like to become a governor you can contact us at [email protected] or call us on 0121 262 4721.
How to apply
We are seeking high-calibre, committed governors and chairs of governors to strengthen our governing boards across the OAT family, and to support academies on their journeys of improvement and transformation.
With 40 academies in the network, we are looking for people who share our ethos and values and can offer leadership and experience as well as the right level of challenge and support to our academies. Our values are aspirational – we believe that anyone can excel, that we must be inclusive, share what is best and embrace the challenge ahead of us.
If you share our values and feel you can offer valuable skills and experience to academy governance we would like to hear from you. If we match you to a vacancy you will receive induction training and subsequently benefit from ongoing development and support.
To apply, please contact the OAT governance department at [email protected] or fill in and return the expression of interest form below.
